French Flanders and the Opal Coast

  • Just across the “schreve”, the flemish variety for “border”, you find yourself in French Flanders with smaller and bigger towns such as Hondschoote, Bergues and St-Omer. The remainings of their rich past are the old rampart walls, the restored 18 th century mansions or other architectural wealth. It is definitely worth a visit! (www.noordfrankrijktoerisme.com )
  • Via Dunkirk (Duinkerke) and Calais you reach the strikingly beautiful and strongly hilly landscape of the Opal Coast with the Cap Blanc Nez and the Cap Griz Nez. It is the ideal location for long nature walks in the wind. On a clear day, you can admire Dover's famous white chalk cliffs across from Calais.
  • A bit further lies Boulogne-sur-Mer, France's largest fishing port. The upper town invites you for a delightful walk through the ancient cobble-stoned streets between the ramparts. Or go to visit the marina and fisherman port or the Nausica, the National Sea Experience Centre in the town center. ( www.pas-de-calais.com )
